Abstract

In history, the phrase of a transition, or the process of one phase replace the other, is an important aspect to review. By looking at the collision of two different historical statuses, we can obtain knowledge on both sides. This paper, thus, tries to seek the relationship between a society's consideration of the Western Mediterranean and the transitions between the societies. By doing so, the author attempts to grasp a better understanding of several powers on the Mediterranean Ocean. Through this analysis, we can gain a specific conclusion: that the reason towards a transition may determine the actions of each factions in the integration process. Those transitions that have a motivation over a single issue, whether it may be a region, policy, or religion, ends in a way that the issue benefits the winner of the transition, while those without motivation does not end in utilization over the issue. It can also been seen as that the difference between 'reason's which sparked the 'transition' between two forces resulted in different ways of 'integration' between the original and the new forces of a region.
