Abstract

Health plays an important role for complete development of the human being. For providing better health to the population it is important to have optimum distribution, accessibility and allocation of health facilities with respect to their threshold population. Since post-independence it is seen that the government’s programmes and policies for the provision of health facilities is mainly confined to the urban areas than rural areas. Though, the government is now making efforts to provide better health facilities to the rural population but a wide functional gap is observed because of unplanned allocation of health facilities. Therefore, in the present paper an attempt has been made to examine the existing spatio-functional gap of health facilities in 2011 which has been projected to exist in 2021 and finally appropriate sites has been located for balanced regional development. Out of the 12 blocks in Aligarh District, Iglas block is selected for the present study because of least developed in terms of availability of health facilities. The study is based on both qualitative and quantitative technique using primary data supplemented with secondary data. The result shows that a wide spatio-functional gap in the availability and accessibility of health facilities was found in 2011 and this gap will increase in 2021 based on projected population.
